SphygmoCor endorsed by two major international clinical trials

Two major outcome trials both utilising the SphygmoCor System were presented at the American Heart Association meeting yesterday. The studies clearly demonstrate the importance of central blood pressure measurements in assessing cardiovascular risk and the effects of pharmacologic therapy on clinical outcomes. AtCor Medical has issued an ASX/media release regarding these studies.

The medcompare.com website, contains product information and a comparison tool that allows physicians, surgeons, and procurement personnel to review medical products and specifications online. The site is designed to help medical professionals decide which products are appropriate for their practice, and provides easy-to-use tools for the user to request additional product information or price quotes. AtCor Medical Closes Financial Year with 25% Revenue Growth

AtCor has closed its financial year to 30 June 2005 with an increase in revenue of 25% over the previous year. “This growth has come primarily from North America where we have been expanding our direct organization”, said AtCor Medical CEO, Ross Harricks.

SphygmoCor Adopted By Leading US Cardiovascular Prevention Center

AtCor Medical’s SphygmoCor Px Pulse Wave Analysis system has been adopted by Colorado Heart and Body Imaging of Denver, one of the most technologically advanced and versatile prevention programs in the United States. Colorado Heart and Body Imaging plans to make sophisticated pulse wave analysis an integral part of its preventive cardiology services and is working closely with the AtCor Medical team in both the clinical and research arenas.

SphygmoCor Version 7.1 Launched

AtCor today launched its latest version of the SphygmoCor software suite. Key user benefits are:

  • gender-specific “normal” values for SphygmoCor’s key central parameters, based on an expanded database of 4,000 patients (clinical study in press)
  • improved quality assessment of user’s captured raw data waveforms
  • adaptations for US market requirements

NIH-funded University of Pennsylvania Study Selects SphygmoCor

SphygmoCor systems have been selected for a national multi-centre study in the USA, funded by the NIH, to look at the development of cardiovascular risk in patients with chronic renal disease. The project, a sub study of the CRIC trial, will be led by Dr Raymond Townsend, at University of Pennsylvania.

New SphygmoCor Tonometer Enhancement Launched

After research and field trials, AtCor today launched a new tonometer sleeve that can be retro-fitted to existing tonometers to make the capture of high quality peripheral artery blood pressure waveforms much easier and quicker. There has been a strong positive response to the new tonometer, particularly from new SphygmoCor users.

Australian Medical Advisory Group Established

AtCor Medical has established an Australian-based Medical Advisory Group to advise the company’s Sydney head office on the medical issues relating to its international business development. The Group comprises Prof Albert Avolio, Prof Marc Budge, Prof. David Celermajer, Dr Chris Hayward, Prof. Stephen McMahon, and Prof Tom Marwick. The group held its inaugural meeting today.

Boehringer Ingelheim Chooses SphygmoCor for International Clinical Trial

International pharmaceutical company, Boehringer Ingelheim (Ingelheim, Germany) has selected SphygmoCor systems for a new international stroke trial it is commencing in April in twelve sites around the world.

Lisa McIntyre Appointed to AtCor Medical Board

Dr Lisa McIntyre has been appointed to the Board of AtCor Medical. Lisa is a Director with L.E.K. Consulting Pty Ltd where she leads the Asia Pacific Life Sciences practice. She has over twelve years consulting in the life sciences and biopharmaceutical industries and has worked with more than 70 clients across a wide range of projects. Dr. McIntyre recently relocated to Sydney after over 9 years in the United States. Lisa is a Director of the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, and a Director of Biotech Capital Ltd.

 

AtCor Medical Establishes US Scientific Advisory Committee

AtCor Medical’s US Scientific Advisory Committee has been established, chaired by Dr. Myron Weisfeldt, the William Osler Professor of Medicine and Director of the Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University. The Committee, which held its first meeting in conjunction with the American Heart Association meeting in New Orleans, advises AtCor Medical on scientific and medical issues related to the Company’s expansion in the US market.

 

Donal O’Dwyer Appointed Chairman of AtCor Medical

Mr Donal O’Dwyer was appointed as Chairman of AtCor Medical at today’s Board of Directors meeting. Mr Peter Jenkins steps down as Chairman after 4 years and will continue as a Director on the Board. Mr O’Dwyer relocated to Australia in January 2004 from the USA, having retired as worldwide President of Cordis Cardiology, the cardiology devices business of Johnson & Johnson. Prior to joining Cordis in Europe, he worked for 12 year in Europe with Baxter Healthcare, where he rose to be President of the Baxter’s European Cardiovascular group.

 

Genzyme Expands Utilisation of SphygmoCor Systems

Genzyme-Europe has expanded the use of SphygmoCor systems to an additional 20 centres in their CORD renal clinical trial. The new centres are located in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Norway. This expansion brings the number of CORD study sites to 40 with the original sites in Belgium and the Netherlands.

 

AtCor Medical Lodges Application with the Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC) to Commence Process for Australian Reimbursement.

AtCor Medical has lodged an application to MSAC, Australia’s medical technology assessment body, to review its SphygmoCor technology. The Company’s objective in this new application is to gain MSAC recommendation to the Department of Health for the allocation of a reimbursement item number in the federal medical benefits schedule for the clinical use of SphygmoCor. This review process is likely to be completed by the end of 2005.

 

AtCor Medical Appoints Two Senior Executives in its US Operations

AtCor Medical today announced the establishment of the Company’s United States subsidiary, AtCor Medical, Inc. (USA), and the appointment of Douglas T. Kurschinski and Dr. Dean C. Winter to the leadership positions of Vice President – Market Development, and Vice President – Clinical and Scientific Affairs, respectively.

Mr. Kurschinski comes to AtCor Medical with over 13 years experience in the US cardiovascular device industry, most recently as Director of Global Clinical Applications at Stereotaxis, Inc. of St. Louis, MO. Prior to that, he served as Director of North American Sales at Cardiac Pathways Corporation in Sunnyvale, CA and held positions in clinical research and business development with St. Jude Medical and Cardiac Pacemakers, Inc, both of St. Paul, MN. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Iowa and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

Dr. Winter joins AtCor Medical from nearly 20 years at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, TX, where he was the Director of the Bioengineering Department. While at Southwest, he led the development of a number of innovative clinical medical devices, including the first commercially available arterial tonometer and numerous enhancements to automatic blood pressure monitoring systems. Dr. Winter was formerly on the faculty of mechanical engineering at the University of Houston and the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He holds a doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University, a Master’s Degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Stanford University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Purdue University.

AtCor Completes First FDA Quality System Inspection

AtCor Medical received notice from the FDA that in their first Establishment Inspection of their West Ryde, Sydney development and production facilities, conducted in June, AtCor Medical met the requirements of FDA QS/GMP regulations.

New European Hypertension Guidelines Acknowledge SphygmoCor

The new European Society for Hypertension / European Society for Cardiology guidelines for managing hypertension and cardiovascular risk were presented at the ESH annual meeting in Milan.

The guidelines acknowledge "the pulse wave velocity measurement and the augmentation index measurement device (SphygmoCor)", "particularly in view of the claim that aortic blood pressure (and therefore the pressure exerted on the heart and brain) may be different from that which is usually measured at the arm, may be predictive of outcomes, and may be differently affected by different antihypertensive drugs"
