SphygmoCor Technology
The SphygmoCor family of products provides tools for non-invasive assessment of the cardiovascular system,
focused on central blood pressures, measures of arterial stiffness and autonomic function. The technology
that powers these products is centered on an algorithm that derives the pressure wave at the ascending aorta
from an external measurement taken at the radial artery. SphygmoCor allows non-invasive measurement of the
pressure the heart, brain and kidneys actually experience.
SphygmoCor testing is painless, quick and provides instant test results.
The SphygmoCor family includes:
The SphygmoCor CP System
SphygmoCor CP, a non-invasive device takes a 10 second snapshot of the radial arterial pressure wave and derives
the ascending aortic pressure wave, providing critical cardiovascular measurements including central blood
pressure, aortic augmentation index, ejection duration and subendocardial viability ratio.
The CP system measures central blood pressure, shown to be a superior predictor of cardiovascular events.
It is essential for management of patients with hypertension, diabetes and cardiovascular disease conditions.
A Powerful and Versatile Tool
SphygmoCor CP, available in the US, Europe and other markets, is the global gold standard for central blood
pressure and arterial stiffness assessment. SphygmoCor technology has been featured in hundreds of
published studies, used in patient care, research and in pharmaceutical clinical trials worldwide. Published
studies have described the system’s use in hypertension management, heart failure, kidney disease, high risk
pregnancy, diabetic care, drug therapy management, cardiovascular risk stratification and a wide range of other applications.
The SphygmoCor CP system - portable, lightweight, powered by laptops - is suitable for use in every clinical setting, including home care and military applications.
In markets where the SphygmoCor CP system is not yet available, AtCor offers our original SphygmoCor Px system
which features a slide-out drawer containing the tonometer.
SphygmoCor CP systems are fully upgradeable. SphygmoCor CP can be upgraded to SphygmoCor CPV which adds pulse
wave velocity measurement and SphygmoCor CPV can be upgraded to SphygmoCor CPVH which adds the capability for heart rate variability testing.
The SphygmoCor CPV System
The CPV system adds the capability of aortic pulse wave velocity measurement from any two locations in the arterial
tree, most commonly performed through readings at the carotid and femoral arteries. The SphygmoCor CPV system is the
global standard for pulse wave velocity assessment, featured in hundreds of published studies. It is used in patient
care, research and pharmaceutical clinical trials.
The SphygmoCor CPVH System
The CPVH system offers central pressures assessment, pulse wave velocity and heart rate variability measurement capabilities.
It allows analysis of both time and frequency domains and measures of sympathetic and parasympathetic activity.
The system allows valsalva and standing manoeuvre tests to be performed.
SphygmoCor CPM System
The CPM system provides continuous real time, beat-to-beat central pressures data and other key cardiovascular
parameters, constantly monitoring changes in blood pressure by deriving central pressure through radial monitoring catheters.
The system is ideally suited for anaesthesiology, critical care or step-down applications,
allowing central blood pressure data to be obtained without the insertion of a central line.
